About University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE)

University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) was established in 1917 by Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, then Diwan of Mysore, making it one of the oldest engineering colleges in India. It was long a constituent college of Bangalore University and is now governed under the University of Visvesvaraya College of Engineering Act, 2022 (Karnataka Act No. 9 of 2022), which gave it independent status separate from Bangalore University. UVCE has moved to a modern campus at K.R. Circle in central Bengaluru.

UVCE is a fully government-funded institution, approved by AICTE and accredited by NAAC with an A grade; its programmes carry NBA accreditation. As a government college it does not offer management quota seats, and its fees are among the lowest of any engineering college in Bangalore.

Courses and branches

UVCE offers the four-year B.E., along with M.E., B.Arch and M.Arch programmes. B.E. branches include:

Eligibility

For B.E., candidates need a pass in 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science or Electronics, and at least 45% aggregate (40% for SC/ST/OBC candidates of Karnataka). A valid KCET rank is required; UVCE also considers COMEDK for some seats.

1. KCET (government quota)

Almost all seats at UVCE are filled through KEA counselling using KCET ranks. Because UVCE is a fully government institution, this is by far the most affordable route into a well-known Bangalore engineering college, but it is also extremely competitive given the very small number of seats.

2. COMEDK UGET

A limited number of seats are also open to COMEDK UGET candidates. As a government college, UVCE does not run a management quota, so there is no direct-admission route outside KCET and COMEDK.

UVCE’s campus is at K.R. Circle, Dr. Ambedkar Veedhi, in the heart of central Bengaluru, close to the Vidhana Soudha and Cubbon Park. This is the most central location of any engineering college covered here, well connected by Namma Metro and city buses, though the campus footprint is smaller than suburban colleges.
