About RV College of Engineering

RV College of Engineering (RVCE), formally Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering, was founded in 1963 by the Rashtreeya Sikshana Samithi Trust. It sits on Mysore Road in Pattanagere, south-west Bengaluru, and is one of the oldest self-financing engineering colleges in India. The college has been autonomous since 2008, which means it sets its own syllabus and exams while degrees are awarded by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi.

RVCE is approved by AICTE and accredited by NAAC with an A+ grade. In NIRF 2025 it was placed in the 101–150 band for engineering, after ranking 99 in 2024. For many Karnataka families it remains the first choice for computer science, which is why its cutoffs are among the tightest in the state.

Courses and branches

RVCE offers the four-year B.E. across roughly 15–16 branches, along with M.Tech, MCA and Ph.D. programmes. Total B.E. intake is reported at around 1,440 seats. B.E. branches include:

Eligibility

For B.E. through KCET or COMEDK, candidates need a pass in 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science or Electronics, and at least 45% aggregate in these subjects (40% for SC/ST/OBC candidates of Karnataka under KCET). A valid KCET or COMEDK UGET rank is required.

Admission routes at RVCE

1. KCET (government quota)

Karnataka candidates who write KCET are allotted seats through Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) counselling. This is the least expensive route, with the lowest tuition fee, but it is also the most competitive.

2. COMEDK UGET

Students from any state can apply through COMEDK UGET. Seats are allotted through COMEDK counselling, and the fee is higher than the KCET quota.

3. Management quota

RVCE runs its management quota admissions directly through its own admission office, and its circulars state that it does not work through consultants or agents. Based on the RVCE 2026-27 circular as reported by Collegedunia, applicants should expect the following:

• At least 70% in Science and Mathematics separately in Class 10, and 65% in Physics and Mathematics separately in Class 11.
• At least 60% in Physics and Mathematics in Class 12, once results are out.
• A rank in KCET, COMEDK or JEE Main for the current year.
• Applications are made by email to the management office with the preferred branch and scanned documents.

Recruiters reported in recent seasons include Microsoft, Cisco, Atlassian, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Deloitte, Morgan Stanley and Dell Technologies. Highest packages usually go to a small number of students, so the median figure is the better guide to what a typical graduate earns.

Campus and location

The campus covers about 16.85 acres on Mysore Road, around 13 km from the city centre. It has separate hostels for boys and girls, sports facilities, and an active student culture that includes 8th Mile, the college’s annual techno-cultural fest. The Namma Metro Purple Line runs along Mysore Road, so day scholars can commute from much of the city.
