About BMS College of Engineering

BMS College of Engineering (BMSCE) was started in 1946 by B. M. Sreenivasaiah. It is described as India’s first private-sector engineering college and is run by the B.M.S. Educational Trust. The college sits on Bull Temple Road in Basavanagudi, one of Bengaluru’s oldest neighbourhoods. Although it is a private institution, part of its funding comes from the Government of Karnataka, which is why some seats carry an unusually low fee.

BMSCE has been autonomous since 2008 and is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU). It is approved by AICTE, accredited by NAAC with an A++ grade, and was placed in the 151–200 band for engineering in NIRF 2025.

Courses and branches

The college offers 14 undergraduate and 15 postgraduate programmes, along with Ph.D. and M.Sc. (Engg.) by research. B.E. intake is reported at about 1,380 seats. B.E. branches include:

  • Computer Science and Engineering, CSE (Data Science), AI and Machine Learning, and Information Science
  • Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Instrumentation, and Electronics and Telecommunication
  • Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial Engineering and Management, Biotechnology, and Aerospace

Postgraduate options include M.Tech, MBA and MCA.

Eligibility

For B.E., candidates need a pass in 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics, plus one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Computer Science or Electronics. The minimum is 45% aggregate in these subjects, or 40% for SC/ST/OBC candidates of Karnataka. A rank in KCET, COMEDK UGET or JEE Main is required, including for management seats.

Admission routes at BMSCE

1. KCET (government quota)

Most B.E. seats at BMSCE are filled through KEA counselling using KCET ranks. Because part of the college is government aided, this is one of the most affordable routes into a top Bengaluru college for Karnataka students.

2. COMEDK UGET and JEE Main

Private unaided seats are filled through COMEDK counselling. These seats are open to students from any state, and JEE Main ranks are also considered.

3. Management quota

BMSCE has a small number of management quota seats. Applicants still need a valid KCET, COMEDK or JEE Main rank and must meet the eligibility marks. Education portals report that management quota fees differ widely by branch, and computer science is the most expensive. Seats depend on availability, and the college makes the final admission decision. Call +91 76760 80008 for updated details on fees and the process.

Tuition fee waivers: Shiksha reports that BMSCE offers a 100% tuition fee waiver to some B.E. students admitted through KEA counselling. This includes the first 50 students with KCET ranks from 1 to 1,000, students with national or international sports achievements, and wards of Army, Navy and Air Force personnel. Confirm current eligibility with the college.

BMSCE cutoff 2026

The figures below are General category closing ranks reported for the 2026 counselling rounds. They change with each round, so check the final KEA and COMEDK lists for your category.

BranchKCET 2026, Round 1COMEDK 2026, Round 3
Computer Science and Engineering1,9203,268
Civil Engineering22,21021,550

CSE is the most competitive branch and Civil closes at the highest ranks. Electronics, electrical and mechanical branches fall between the two, so students outside the CSE range still have realistic options at BMSCE.

BMSCE placements

Careers360 reports that BMSCE’s NIRF 2026 data shows a median package of ₹10 LPA for UG students. For the 2025 season, Shiksha reports 1,307 job offers and 775 internship offers with an average package of ₹11.4 LPA, and Careers360 reports a highest package of ₹51.5 LPA. Recruiters mentioned in recent seasons include Accenture, Oracle, EY, Amazon, J.P. Morgan and Cohesity.

Campus and location

BMSCE has a compact city campus opposite the Bull Temple in Basavanagudi, in south Bengaluru. It is close to Lalbagh and Bengaluru City railway station, and Namma Metro’s Green Line serves the area, so commuting is easy. The central location is useful for internships at Bengaluru companies. Hostel availability is limited compared with suburban campuses, so outstation students should check allotment early.

Is BMSCE right for you?

BMSCE is a strong fit for Karnataka students with good KCET ranks who want a well-known college, low fees on aided seats and a central city location. If you are comparing it with RVCE or MSRIT, look at the branch you actually want rather than the college name alone. The comparison tool shows fees, cutoffs and placements side by side.
