Why students choose NMIT
About Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology
Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT) was set up in 2001 by the Nitte Education Trust. The campus is in Yelahanka, north Bengaluru, close to the airport road. For many years NMIT was an autonomous college under VTU. Education portals report that it became a constituent college of NITTE (Deemed to be University) in 2024.
This change matters for admissions. NMIT now awards a B.Tech and admits most engineering students through the university’s own entrance test rather than KCET or COMEDK. NMIT is accredited by NAAC with an A+ grade and was placed in the 101–150 band for engineering in NIRF 2025.
Courses and branches
NMIT offers B.Tech in about 12 specialisations, along with M.Tech, MBA, MCA and Ph.D. programmes. B.Tech branches include:
- Computer Science and Engineering, AI and Machine Learning, AI and Data Science, and Information Science
- Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, and Robotics and Artificial Intelligence
- Mechanical, Civil, and Aeronautical Engineering
NMIT is known for its research centres in areas such as robotics, nanomaterials and small satellites.
Admission routes at NMIT
1. NUCAT (NITTE University entrance test)
Most B.Tech admissions now go through NUCAT, the Nitte University Common Admission Test. Apply through the NITTE admissions portal and check the current year’s notification for dates, syllabus and eligibility.
2. JEE Main
Collegedunia reports that a small share of seats, about 2%, is available through JEE Main.
What about KCET and COMEDK?
Older articles still list NMIT under KCET and COMEDK, but those figures come from before it became part of the deemed university. Portals report that KCET and COMEDK no longer apply to NMIT’s B.Tech admissions, so treat old cutoff tables with caution. Call +91 76760 80008 if you need help working out which route applies to you.
NMIT fee structure
| Programme | Tuition per year (indicative) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| B.Tech (NUCAT) | About ₹1.75 lakh to ₹4.5 lakh (reported) | Varies by branch; exam and other fees extra |
| Specific branch fees | Call us for updated details | Confirm with the current NITTE fee circular |
NMIT placements
For the 2025 season, CollegeDekho reports that 192 companies visited and made about 1,170 job offers. Shiksha reports a highest package of ₹58.93 LPA, and says 165 of 190 B.Tech CSE candidates were placed. Recruiters mentioned include Amazon, Dell and Infosys.
Campus and location
NMIT is on Nitte Meenakshi College Road near the BSF campus in Yelahanka, with a reported campus of about 23 acres. It is well placed for students heading to Hebbal and Manyata Tech Park for internships, and is a short drive from Kempegowda International Airport. Hostels are available on campus.
Is NMIT right for you?
NMIT suits students in north Bengaluru who are interested in research-driven programmes such as aeronautics and robotics. Because admission is now through NUCAT, plan for it separately from KCET and COMEDK. Compare NMIT with BMSIT&M and NHCE using the comparison tool.
