Why students choose PESU
About PES University
PES University (PESU) is run by the People’s Education Society, which started its engineering college, PES Institute of Technology, in 1972. It became a private state university in 2013. Because it is a university rather than a VTU-affiliated college, PESU sets its own courses, exams and degrees.
Engineering is taught mainly at two Bengaluru campuses: the Ring Road (RR) campus in Banashankari 3rd Stage and the Electronic City (EC) campus on Hosur Road. This page covers the RR campus, which is the more sought-after of the two. PESU is recognised by UGC, is NAAC accredited, and was placed in the 101–150 band for engineering in NIRF 2025.
Courses and branches
PES University awards a B.Tech rather than a B.E. Engineering branches at the RR campus include:
- Computer Science and Engineering and CSE (AI & ML)
- Electronics and Communication and Electrical and Electronics
- Mechanical Engineering and Biotechnology
The university also offers architecture, design, management, law, commerce, sciences and medicine, along with M.Tech, MBA, MCA and Ph.D. programmes.
Admission routes at PES University
PESU’s admission rules have changed recently, so check the official admissions page each year. Several education portals report that PESSAT has been discontinued for B.Tech admissions from 2026-27, and B.Tech seats are now filled through the routes below.
1. KCET (government quota)
Some seats are allotted through KEA counselling to Karnataka candidates, at the government-quota fee. These are the lowest-fee seats and are highly competitive.
2. PESU merit list (KCET or JEE Main)
The university fills a share of seats from its own merit list based on KCET or JEE Main scores. The fee for these seats is higher than for government-quota seats.
3. Management / higher fee category
A smaller share of seats falls in the management or higher-fee category, with applications handled by the university’s admissions office. Fees vary by branch, and allotment depends on seat availability and university policy. Call +91 76760 80008 for updated details.
COMEDK: Some portals report that PESU does not take B.Tech students through COMEDK. Confirm with the university before relying on this route.
PES University fee structure
| Route | Tuition per year (indicative) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| KCET government quota | Call us for updated details | Set under the KEA fee structure |
| PESU merit (KCET / JEE Main) | About ₹4.5–5.5 lakh (reported) | Varies by branch |
| Management / higher fee | Call us for updated details | Varies by branch |
PESU has merit scholarships for students who perform well during the course, such as the Prof. MRD scholarship, which partially refunds tuition to top performers by CGPA. Hostel and mess charges are separate. Check both with the university.
PES University KCET cutoff
These are reported Round 1 General category closing ranks for the Ring Road campus. Later rounds close at higher ranks.
| Branch | KCET 2025, Round 1 | KCET 2026, Round 1 |
|---|---|---|
| Computer Science and Engineering | 934 | 628 |
| CSE (AI & ML) | 1,494 | 971 |
| Electronics and Communication | 2,380 | 1,223 |
| Mechanical Engineering | Call us for updated details | 4,935 |
2026 figures are as reported by Shiksha, and 2025 figures by FindUrCollege and Future Career Guidance. The drop from 2025 to 2026 shows that competition for PESU has increased sharply.
PES University placements
Education portals report a B.Tech median package of about ₹12–12.5 LPA from PESU’s NIRF data. For the 2025 season, they report a highest package of ₹68 LPA and more than 350 recruiting companies. Recruiters named include Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Intel, Cisco, SAP, Deloitte and Flipkart.
Campus and location
The Ring Road campus is on the Outer Ring Road in Banashankari 3rd Stage, south Bengaluru, and is reported to cover about 25–30 acres. It has hostels for boys and girls, sports facilities and a large library. The EC campus, near Electronic City, is larger and sits close to many technology companies.
Is PES University right for you?
PESU suits students who want a university with its own flexible curriculum and a strong computer science culture. Fees on the university’s merit seats are higher than at VTU-affiliated colleges, so compare the total four-year cost with RVCE, BMSCE and MSRIT. Use the comparison tool to see them side by side.
